When a Danish Tanning company needed to weigh their rotating Tanning Drums, they looked at multiple possibilities, including fitting the legs with strain gauges. The company management were extremely sceptical when our European representative Leathertech GmbH, suggested they mount the entire drum on load cell mounts. The out of balance forces created by the rotating drum put severe strain on the load cell mounts which are located under the legs. They were delighted however, with the end result, proven by Walter Hottinger from Leathertech, climbing on top of a drum with a 90 tonne capacity weighing system, and seeing his weight displayed within 10kg, no matter where he walked on the drum. To cope with the extremely severe wash-down area, Vishay Celtron DSR load cells made from stainless steel with welded seals, and IP67 protection were used. In all, some 8 drums were weighed by this method.
